You know what it Sekaten?Sekaten is derived from the word "Syahadatain" which is then translated and simplified by Java tongue into SEKATEN. Sekaten held to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad which falls padatanggal 8 Rabi al-Awwal.Javanese calendar dates that follow Islam makes this celebration does not fall on the same day every year but developed about 11 days per year. In 2013 this Sekaten fall in December. The ceremony was formerly used by the Sultan Hamengkubuwana I, founder of the palace of Yogyakarta to invite the public to follow and embrace Islam.From year to year celebration sekaten experience ups and downs. For more than 250 years the festival has become entertainment for the people of Yogyakarta and surrounding areas until about 10 years ago commercialized by the government of Yogyakarta to pay customs duties. Sekaten authenticity as a festival for the people returned with no longer any duty fees for visitors.This sekaten celebration besides there in Yogyakarta also contained in Surakarta. Keraton Surakarta is also celebrated every year on the same. In Yogyakarta, before gerebeg Maulud paraded out of the palace a few days before the ceremony started with a motorcade servant carrying two sets of gamelan Dalem namely: Kyai Nogowilogo and Kyai Gunturmadu. A convoy of this stems from the pavilion Ponconiti to the Grand Mosque in the north of the square, escorted by soldiers Kraton. Kyai Nogowilogo will occupy the north side of the Grand Mosque, while Kyai Gunturmadu will be in Pagongan south of the mosque. Both sets of gamelan will be played simultaneously until 11 months Mulud for 7 consecutive days. On the last night, the second gamelan will be brought back to the palace.
